The transfer deadline day thread
Need at least 2 today, including a striker......surely one is on its way if Mipo was allowed out on loan last night

Lingard, Vlasic, Maitland Niles and a striker will do nicely !!

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
I think the most obvious answer to the striker conundrum is staring us in the face. Moyes turned two wingers, Antonio and Arnie, into top strikers. He probably thinks he can do the same with Vlasic and/or Bowen.

Maybe he thinks the premium price put on most strikers isn’t worth paying when he’s confident he can convert a midfielder.

Isn't that young lad from celtic a striker?

Two young strikers, that would only be back up anyway, are worse than no backup strikers?

Righto, AthleticoCK EasthamicoCK

Eduard and Nketiah are not good enough for us.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
Whilst no one wants to seem like a miserable fucker after three seemingly decent late signings when most of us weren’t expecting much at all, the lack of a back-up striker does seem bizarre especially when you see figures going around like £14m for Edouard to Palace and Nketiah supposedly having been offered around for £15m.

Edouard, albeit in a shit league (but also in an underperforming team at least last season) has 54 goals in 98 games in his last three seasons, and his alleged Palace wages of 85k a week are I suspect less than we’re paying Zouma for example so could hardly have been considered exorbitant. Nketiah is on about half that apparently and his record isn’t nearly as good (11 in 48 last two seasons with Leeds on loan and then back at Arsenal) but he’s highly rated and…well…he’s a striker at least, and with potential to improve.

It’s not like no one was available and as good as Vlasic might turn out to be if we had £25m or so spare then that seems an odd place to spend it. I don’t recall him at Everton and don’t watch much Croatian national or Russian league football on the whole but I’ve not seen any write-ups suggesting he can operate up front.

I can only assume that Vlasic coming in means that Lanzini and Yarmolenko are unlikely to be seen again and were presumably offered around with no takers. Unsurprising in the letter case, probably also unsurprising but a bit of a shame in the former. Freeing up their wages and getting a fee for maybe one of them might have allowed that striker signing as well - but it does seem that ought to have been the priority anyway, and if we managed to move those two on then that was the time to go looking for another attacking midfielder on deadline day.

In Moyes we trust, I guess…and so we should. But it is all a bit perverse.

Some really good signings, but yet again no out and out striker. Continually perplexing

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
My one hope with these signings is we haven’t signed any ‘frauds’, and they’ll knuckle down for the cause like the others do.

Lily - Definitely rotation, but if he were to come straight in for someone especially after only training for a couple of days it would feel like they've been dropped.

*Possibly 6 games a month for next three, 8 in December, not counting our players increasing out on international duty in the three windows (expanded to three matches for some federations)

People will get to play.

* Just one less in October/December if we somehow lose to Man U etc.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
I think the word "drop" is not appropriate.

It's all about "rotate," innit?

We are heading into the weird territory of the big boys, as in having a proper squad with quality on the bench. Like at Man City, where you wouldn't say Mahrez or Sterling are dropped, when they sit on the bench.

They will all be needed, even if we have an injury free season.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
Yeah, Dawson's purple patch has hit the buffers. A bench with Lanzini, Yarmolenko, Vlasic and Kral looks a bit more handy. And with a decent keeper whichever one isn’t playing.

I think Moyes has bought Vlasic to play the striker role as cover for Antonio..

Looking at his clips he can slot in to any of the 4 forward positions we play ....

We need to make changes when playing two games a week. Will be interesting yo see how they manage it and what the formation might be.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
Modern day football, Vlasic will start on the bench and no doubt someone will get a 'knock' soon enough, which will give Vlasic a start. That's how it usually goes.

Re: The transfer deadline day thread
I think Zouma will be the only change.

Benrahma has been involved in 6 of our 10 goals would be madness to drop him or the other two..

Gonna be Benny ain't it?

Do you mean the January window where we made Benrahma's loan a transfer and paid up accordingly, Barnet?
